Hard Rock Café and more awesome things!

On Saturday I could sleep in a little longer (that's just what I needed). Then I got up, took a shower and stuff, and ate breakfast. After breakfast, Linda and I made oatmeal cookies. They were for Linda's choir practice, but I got to taste one, and they tasted very good!

Then we got in the car, and went to the orientation for people who are going to help out at Habitat for Humanity. This organization buys up houses in poor neighbourhoods that are in poor condition. Then, they either break it all down and build a new house, or they remodel the house, so it becomes a 'new' house. In order to finance this, they have sponsors, and a second hand store, called the ReStore. The family's that are going to live in the newly build houses have to help out building their house and building other houses, or helping out in the ReStore. Next to that, in order to get placed in a home, they have to have a certain income. As this is a non-profit organization, they rely on the help of volunteers a lot. And that's what Linda and I are going to do coming week on Tuesday and Thursday: we are going to volunteer for Habitat for humanity.
Another goal of Habitat is decreasing the poverty rate in Cleveland. At the moment, it is around 34 percent, which makes Cleveland the poorest big city in the United States. Habitat helps by 'rebuilding' the poorer neighbourhoods one house at a time. By making families homeowners of a new home, the families ought to do more for the community and therefore the standard of living in the whole neighbourhood improves. Next to that, it also improves the family's financial situation. So, it's a win-win situation.

Linda, Patti and I went to the Science Center to have lunch. I love the building! Then we bought our tickets to the 3:00pm Omnimax movie. As we still had an hour and a half before the movie started, we went to drive around. They showed me this 'cultural road' near the university. The road is very long, but with beautiful trees around it. And at the sides of the road there were these little gardens, with statues or flowers or something. Each of these gardens represented a country, and every country was represented. It was a beautiful and appealing idea for me, as it might raise the awareness of cultural differences and as it shows that each country and culture has something valuable. Unfortunately, I didn't find the part of the Netherlands...
Then we drove on to some greenhouses. The temperature was a welcome change, as it was very cold outside today.
At 3:00pm, we went to see the Omnimax movie 'The Great Lakes'. And it was awesome!! The movie told a little bit of background information about the Great Lakes (the lakes around the American-Canadian border). And the movie screen was awesome! It was six stories high, and covered your whole vision. This meant that, when you sat there, it would look like you were there. Like everything happened just in front of you. It was a huge screen!
After the movie was finished, we went to Tower City Center. This is a mall and at the same time it has many entrances to different hotels and a casino. And it was big! It was a little overwhelming maybe, but it looked pretty cool though. So, we decided to get an appetizer at the Hard Rock Café. And the Hard Rock Café is awesome! I definitely want to go back there some day. It was full of posters and guitars, and just the whole atmosphere in there was amazing.
We had an hour to shop, before we had to go somewhere else. And the hour was well spent. I didn't buy anything, which is weird for me, but I did enjoy the building, and just looking through all the stores.
After that hour, we went to make an appearance at a going-away party, of a friend of Linda and Patti's. And I actually had a good time. The food was nice (that's very important) and a had a nice talk about schools and universities with a lady who's name I don't remember. Tonight, I also had the best home-made and warm apple pie I've ever had.
